Case Study -
Hemswell
Booker Hill Projects has and continues to work with a titan in the Anaerobic Digestion industry on multiple sites that are independent to each other with their own unique set ups and requirements.
One such Site is Hemswell Biogas in Lincolnshire which is designed to treat 140,000 tonnes per annum of solid organic waste and liquid organic waste, containing undesirable ‘contamination’ such as plastics, glass, stones etc. The facility is separated in to five general areas; Waste Reception, Separation, Anaerobic Digestion, Biogas Handling and Odour Control.
This project had many challenges to overcome especially making sure that the system smoothly runs from one area through to another and utilising outputs in later areas to help in earlier areas (such as heat produced being used to run processes at earlier stages.). All this Integration meant that the control system needed to be simple to control whilst maintaining accurate monitoring and adhering to very rigorous regulations.
These included:
Infeed Liquid Feed
Infeed Reception
Fixed Shredder and Hammer Mill System
Reception Sump and Macerator Controls
Hydrolysis Tank
Pasteuriser controls and Heat Exchangers
Digestors
Bio-gas Controls
Post Digestion Storage
Bio-Filter System

Booker Hill Projects commitment to our Environmental standards in this project led to hitting many goals essential for climate action and industrial efficiency whilst improving cost efficiency.
With this re-use of waste as a resource and new technological approaches Booker Hill Projects have lowered capital costs, and this Project reduced the emission of landfill gas into the atmosphere whilst using it as a source of renewable energy producing biogas.
